Generalized Back Pain

One of the most common health complaints, back pain is something nearly everyone has experienced at one time or another.  Chiropractic care is a highly effective, non-surgical, drug free method of treating and relieving many different sources of back pain.

Symptoms and causes are unique to each individual. Through the initial exam, a chiropractor will identify the source of the pain and develop a custom treatment plan. Chiropractic care for back pain may involve spinal adjustment, chiropractic mobilization, physical therapy and muscle stimulation. The treatment is gentle and may also involve movement and stretching of the muscles and joints with the ultimate goal of alleviating pain and increasing range of motion in the affected areas.

Sports Injuries

Chiropractic medicine is highly effective in treating sports-related injuries. Both pro athletes and “weekend warriors” alike depend on chiropractic care to heal injuries and improve performance. Injuries to the spine and joints can inhibit your range of motion; reduce strength and endurance and slow reflexes – all of which affect sports and exercise performance.

Through chiropractic rehabilitation, proper joint function is restored and support muscles are strengthened. Treatment plans usually include spinal and/or joint adjustments specific to the patient’s needs. Patients usually receive simple exercises to perform on their own to continue to strengthen support muscles and promote the healing process.

Headaches and Migraines

Numerous studies have shown that chiropractic care for migraines is as effective as medication, but does not cause side effects. Understanding what triggers the migraine is key to developing a course of treatment. Misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine may be identified as the cause. When nerves around the spine become irritated from the misalignment, a person may be more prone to chemical imbalances in the brain and headaches. By realigning the vertebrae, the pressure is relieved, inflammation is reduced and the headache disappears. Gentle and easy exercises can be taught to prevent future headaches.

Neck and Arm Pain or Numbness

These sensations are often caused by nerve pressure or compromised blood flow between the neck and the hand. When muscles become tight or inflamed, or bones are slightly out of alignment, there is less space for the nerves and vessels to pass through them. This pressure may lead to pain, tingling or numbness.

There are several causes of the pain and numbness, but the most common include a bulging or herniated disc in the neck, a spinal misalignment or peripheral entrapment, which is pressure on nerves or vessels away from the spine.  To treat this condition, chiropractors perform an extensive spinal examination to locate the cause of the problem.  A treatment plan may include adjustments, cervical traction, muscle stimulation, ultrasound, heat or ice therapy, as well as stretching and strengthening exercises.

Sinus Problems

Chiropractic care is an effective, drug-free approach for those suffering from chronic sinusitis. By targeting and gently pressing on the bones and mucous membranes surrounding the sinus cavities, chiropractors are able to relieve painful sinus and congestion symptoms. Treatments often result in improved breathing, better drainage, headache relief and improved sleep.

Dizziness

Dizziness or vertigo has many different causes, but is usually a very treatable condition that can be relieved by a chiropractor. After an examination and determination of the cause, an individual course of treatment will be recommended. In more serious cases, a referral to a neurologist will be made. The most common causes of dizziness are benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), acute vestibular neuronitis or labyrinthitis.  More serious causes of dizziness, such as stroke, tumor or neurological diseases usually present with other symptoms that would be detected upon examination.

Dizziness such as BPPV is easily detected and treated in the chiropractor’s office through repositioning maneuvers. A very effective treatment, most patients are symptom free in very few visits. It is often easier to make an appointment with a qualified chiropractor to treat this disorder, as specialists in many medical facilities are few and far between.

Work-related Injuries

ChiroLife specializes in handling workers compensation claims. If you are injured on the job or while performing work off-site, you are entitled to compensation for health services required. If your condition can be helped by chiropractic medicine, ChiroLife will determine the worker’s compensation benefits you are entitled to and prepare the claims. We are also able to refer you to reputable and experienced attorneys, should you need them.

Car Accidents

Car accidents often lead to back problems for the victims. One of the most common problems is whiplash, when an individual’s head is snapped quickly forward and then backward. This can lead to neck pain, stiffness, headaches, blurred vision or tingling sensations. Symptoms may not appear until long after an accident occurs. For this reason, victims are encouraged to seek a spinal examination soon after an accident so that trauma can be determined and corrected before it gets worse. If left untreated, even minor neck and back injuries can lead to joint degeneration in years to come. ChiroLife is well versed in claim procedures and have helped hundreds of accident victims return to good health.

Whiplash

Whiplash is an injury to the neck that occurs when an individual’s head is snapped quickly forward and then backward. It is a common injury resulting from rear-impact car accidents. The neck is often both hyper extended and hyper flexed, causing irritation to the joints and soft tissue around the spine. Joints may become misaligned and stop moving properly, resulting in pain. Other symptoms may include neck stiffness, headache, dizziness, fatigue, jaw pain and visual problems.

A chiropractic exam will indicate where the trouble spots are and a treatment plan can be developed to alleviate the pain. Treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, muscle stimulation therapy, traction therapy or deep tissue massage.

Leg Pain & Sciatica

Sciatica nerves extend from the hips down the back of each leg and divide into smaller nerves that travel into the thigh, calf, feet and toes. Sciatica pain is caused when these nerves are irritated, compressed or inflamed. Many patients with sciatic complain of a shooting pain down the leg into the toes. There are many different causes, but a misaligned lumbar vertebra is a very common one.  The out of place vertebrae puts pressure on the nerve, causing pain. Chiropractic care is an ideal, drug-free approach to relieving this pain by correcting the source of the problem. Through examination, the chiropractor will locate the misalignment and nerve irritation and release the pressure on the nerve so that the body can heal.

Post-surgical Rehabilitation

How well a person recovers from orthopedic surgery is largely due to the effectiveness of their rehabilitation program and whether they are able to follow the program correctly. Inadequate or neglected post-operative rehabilitation is often the main reason that patients continue to experience pain after surgery.  Our chiropractic office can make sticking to your rehabilitation easier for you.
Our staff will teach you step-by-step to make sure you understand the rehab program prescribed before you leave. Our programs adapt with your progress as you regain strength and range of motion.  The individualized attention and support you receive from ChiroLife will help you to achieve a complete recovery.

Indigestion

Most people seek chiropractic care to relieve an ailment like back pain. Interestingly, once they begin to receive care for their spine, several other ailments they may have had, such as indigestion, begin to heal as well. Studies have shown a link between middle back pain and indigestion in particular. Nerves extend from the middle of the spine on into digestive organs such as the stomach, pancreas and intestines. The pressure of bones on these nerves from a misaligned spine can cause disruptions in digestive functions. A chiropractic adjustment can relieve the pressure and help the nerves return to normal.  Once the nerves are healed, the indigestion goes away.

Disc Injuries

Chiropractic care offers safe and effective treatment of disc injuries. Whether the result of acute trauma or long-term poor posture, discs may bulge or herniate, putting pressure on the spinal nerves and cause pain, tingling or numbness at the site of the injury and possibly through the arms or legs. Disc problems respond very well to chiropractic adjustments to the spine and extremity joints.

What is a disc?
Intervertebral discs are tough cartilage pads that separate the bones of the spine. When healthy, they are thick and flexible to allow for a wide range of spinal motion. Over time, simple gravity, past spinal irritation and joint dysfunction can cause the discs in the spine to compress or degenerate. In this state, they are more susceptible to injuries like disc herniation.

Fatigue

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a condition characterized by constant fatigue that tends to worsen with mental and physical exertion and does not improve with rest.  One cause of chronic fatigue is an unbalanced spine.  A result of dysfunction of the body’s energy production system, CFS can affect not only the central nervous system but also the digestive and immune systems.  Treatment for CFS is often geared toward improving balance physically, nutritionally and mentally.  Adjustments to restore balance to the spine are especially helpful in restoring energy to the nervous system and reducing fatigue. Treatments may also include stretching, exercise, massage, posture rehabilitation and nutritional counseling.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a general term that covers a wide range of conditions. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis in the U.S., often referred to as “wear and tear” joint degeneration, or the breakdown of cartilage in the joints. Chiropractic care is very helpful in relieving the aches and pains of most forms of arthritis.  Treatments may include spinal adjustments, manual stretching, exercises and traction. Chiropractic care helps to take pressure off of the joints by restoring normal alignment to the spine and pelvis. Reducing this pressure may diminish or stop the rate of degeneration of the spine, hips and other joints.

Carpal Tunnel & Repetitive Motion Injuries

Repetitive motion injuries are caused by long-term, continual overuse of soft-tissues or by chronic muscle tightness that eventually leads to dysfunction and pain. Overuse and incorrect form result in the formation of fibrous scar tissue and a reduction in flexibility and strength. In addition to pain, stiffness and/or weakness are common symptoms that present over time.

One of the most common repetitive motion injuries is carpal tunnel syndrome. The carpal tunnel is a small canal inside the wrist made up by the wrist bones and the transverse ligament – a fibrous band at the bottom of the tunnel.  Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure placed on the median nerve that passes through the small bones of the wrist as it enters the hand. Repetitive strain leads to pressure on the nerve and the resulting stiffness and pain.

Through joint and soft tissue adjustments, the pressure is released and the inflammation surrounding the median nerve can heal.  Key to a successful treatment is the correction of the initial causes of the repetitive motion. This may include correcting poor posture, creating a more ergonomic work environment or adjusting personal form and technique in whatever motion originally caused the pain.
